Ceramics/3D
Used and explored since pre-historic times, working in clay and other sculptural media has had a particularly important role within our lives. As a creative medium it can develop expressive and manipulative skills, whilst also exploring and understanding the more academic concepts of form, space, texture, weight and structure.
During the KeyStage 3 years, Sidcot students are encouraged to be diversely creative, learning a variety of building processes such as coiling, slabbing and slip casting. Students build upon their knowledge of decorating techniques, including trailing, dipping and pouring, resist and oxide. There is opportunity for students to develop and use their own glaze and other students will have experience of working intricately with lustre.
Ceramics enables students to achieve – no matter their ability – to develop and improve skills, within a secure and respectful environment.
